Secondary Charmonium Production in Heavy Ion Collisions at LHC Energy
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the production of charmonium by DD̄ annihilation during the mixed and hadronic phase of a Pb-Pb collision at LHC energy. The calculations for secondary J/ψ and ψ production are performed within a kinetic model taking into account the spacetime evolution of a longitudinally and transversely expanding medium. It is shown that the yield of secondary J/ψ mesons depends strongly on the J/ψ dissociation cross section with co-moving hadrons. Within the most likely scenario for the dissociation cross section it will be negligible. The secondary production of ψ mesons, however, due to their large cross section above the threshold, can substantially exceed the primary yield.

Charmonium production from the hadronic phase
Charmonium production from the hadron gas formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is studied. Using the J/ψ-hadron absorption cross section determined from the nonperturbative quark-exchange model, which has a peak value similar to that used in the comover model for J/ψ suppression and a thermally averaged value consistent from that extracted from J/ψ data in heavy-ion collisions, we ...

We review the present status in the theoretical and phenomenological understanding of charmonium and bottomonium production in heavy-ion collisions. Starting from an introductory historical perspective, recapitulating the basic notion of “anomalous quarkonium suppression” in heavy-ion collisions, we develop ingredients and concepts aimed at a comprehensive approach to utilize heavy quarkonia as...

متن کاملCharmonium Production in High Energy Collisions
One motivation for studying the production of charmonium in high energy collisions is that these particles are among the simplest probes for heavy-ion collisions. In recent years, there have been significant developments in heavy quarkonium production, both in theory and in experiment. These developments may have important implications for the use of charmonium as a probe in heavy-ion collision...
متن کاملProbing the Medium-induced Energy Loss of Bottom Quarks by Dimuon Production in Heavy Ion Collisions at Lhc
The potential of coming experiments on Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to observe the rescattering and energy loss of heavy quarks in the dense matter created in heavy ion collisions is discussed. We analyze the sensitivity of high-mass μμ pairs from BB semileptonic decays and secondary J/ψ’s from single B decays to the medium-induced bottom quark energy loss.
